At Infinity Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine, we want to learn what factors might influence your child’s health and development so that we can tailor our advice, education, and overall treatment plan to best meet your needs. Along the way, we hope to earn your trust, create a long-term relationship with your family, and become an integral part of the community.
I am a board-certified pediatrician with 35 years of experience practicing medicine. I graduated from Wake Forest University with a double major in French and Biology, spending my junior year at the University of Dijon in France. I graduated from UNC Chapel Hill Medical School (a Tarheel, born and bred!) and completed my pediatric residency at UAMS in Little Rock Arkansas. I then returned to North Carolina to practice in a rural area that had never had a pediatrician.
I have a special interest in children and adolescents with special needs. My first passion was managing allergic diseases such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, and eczema. My twins were diagnosed with ADHD at age five, inspiring me to learn everything possible about its diagnosis and treatment. I continue to expand my knowledge and enjoy partnering with parents to help these challenging kids thrive. In the last few years, mental health problems have exploded in the pediatric population, and mental health providers cannot keep up with the need. I have sought extra training in the management of childhood and adolescent anxiety and depression, and other disorders of mood and behavior, including autism and explosive behavior disorders.
In addition to private practice, I am an assistant professor of Pediatrics and Family and Community Medicine at EVMS, honored to be teaching future physicians who will become important members of their communities. I have been the Medical Director of the Holiday House of Portsmouth for over 20 years.
I have been married to my best friend Michael for over 35 years, and we have three rescue dogs who fill the nest emptied by our four children. I love crafting, travel, reading, and cooking, as well as mountain hikes and walks on the beach. I look forward to meeting and collaborating with new patients and families!
I have been working in the medical field since I was 16 when I started working in a local hospital on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. I am a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner with 30 years of experience in healthcare.
I graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After graduating ODU I worked in the Intensive Care Unit at Riverside Shore Memorial for six years while I continued my education at ODU and earned my masters degree in critical care. I continued on to earn my post-master’s certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Salisbury State University in Maryland.
My first job as a Nurse Practitioner was in pediatrics. I found my calling. I’ve spent the last 23 years working full time in pediatrics. My areas of interest include asthma, ADHD, mental health, newborn care, and preventive care. I so enjoy getting to know my patients and their families, and love feeling like a part of their family.
I was raised on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and worked there until I married my husband Phil, who is also a Registered Nurse. Phil and I have a beautifully blended family with daughters Katie and Cortney, and sons Cooper and Clay. We also have two adorable granddaughters Aspen and Jessie. Phil’s particular interest is woodworking, and he’s quite good at it. Mine is my garden, he helps a lot. We both enjoy making our home, where we all love to be.
I am excited to be on the Infinity Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine team and look forward to continuing to care for my current patients and to meeting many new patients and families!
I have always had a passion for children and I began my career in 1989 as a RN working in NICU, Pediatrics and PICU. In 2002, I furthered my education and began my career as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. After decades of providing care, I saw the increasing need for mental health services for children and adolescents. In 2019, I earned my certification as a Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialist.
I received my education in the state of Michigan graduating in 1989 from Hope College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and in 2002, I earned my Masters of Science in Nursing at Grand Valley State University. I maintain board certifications for both Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Specialist.
Early in my career as a PNP, I was interested in special needs babies, particularly those born early. Recently with my expanded knowledge in mental health, I’ve become invested in providing care for anxiety, depression, ADHD, as well as other challenging behaviors. I offer short-term cognitive behavioral therapy which helps individuals learn healthy coping skills.
While I am not a native of Virginia, I moved here a few short years ago with my husband of over 30 years as he is employed by Smithfield Foods. We have raised 3 children who literally spread themselves across the US from New York City to San Diego, CA and south to Destin, FL. My husband and I spend our vacations visiting our children. I am an avid golfer and golf almost every day that I have free time. In my downtime, I also like to read and crochet.
I look forward to working with families in the surrounding areas to help meet their healthcare needs.
